An accordion is a free reed aerophone instrument with bellows, but there are actually many different instruments within the accordion family, with diverse sounds for various playing styles and genres of music.
The Main Squeeze Orchestra is an all-female accordion orchestra based in Manhattan. The group came to be after founder Walter Kühr had a vivid dream.
Last year Sergei Teleshev won the prestigious US Roland V-Accordion contest. This accordion competition, unlike many others, is open to anyone of any age, amateur or professional. In the initial rounds Teleshev played his own accordion, but the four finalists were provided the latest V-Accordion to play in the last round. “I had only four days to learn the V-Accordion,” says Teleshev.
Although similar in principle, there are several internal and external differences between concertinas and accordions. The most obvious is the way the buttons are played.
