For a recent performance of Pittsburgh Opera’s production of La traviata lead singer Danielle Pastin was ill and unable to perform as Violetta. Understudy Claudia Rosenthal, who had been playing the smaller role of Annina, was prepared to fill the role, except for one problem—there was no Annina understudy. In the end, Rosenthal played both roles, including sung conversations with herself!
