Appreciating the art and beauty of W. F. Bach’s six flute duets, editors Leone Buyse and David Berman have collaborated on the addition of three viola duets to the flutist’s repertoire in their new book, Three Duets for Two Flutes. The editors describe the viola duets as “another example of Friedemann’s gift for creating rich dialogue with less of the rhythmic and harmonic complexity found in the flute duets.”
Working from a copy of the autograph manuscript, the editors made only necessary revisions to the duets (F.60, 61, & 62), as outlined in the notes included. In particular, a transcription of F.60 from C Major to D Major resolved a good deal of conflicts on the flute.
