With Valentine’s Day this weekend, there is never a better day to be with the person you care about, whether they’re your friend, family, or lover. Few mediums can capture the spirit of Valentine’s Day like the power of music, and it is safe to say there have been more than a few love songs over the years. Making Music compiled the top 5 songs to listen to on Valentine’s Day so you won’t have to go out searching for that right song to share with your special someone. And no, Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” is not on it.
5. Queen – “You’re My Best Friend”
It may not seem like the typical Valentine’s Day Song, but Queen Bassist Joe Deacon wrote the song for his wife, and in that way, it is one of the sweetest love songs out there.
4. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – “Our House”
Graham Nash claims to have written the song while living with Joni Mitchell and her two cats. The story goes, they got breakfast, bought an average vase, went home, and the moment felt so perfect in its simplistic, ordinary routine, Nash wrote the song within an hour of being home, proving there is great beauty in the every day.
3. Bryan Adams – “(Everything I do) I do it For You”
Some may argue Robin Hood is one of the greatest love stories, and it is only fitting the song written for the 1991 movie has become known as one of the greatest love songs of all time. It wouldn’t be a Valentine’s Day list without at least one rock ballad.
2. Whitney Houston – “I will Always Love You”
Dolly Parton originally wrote the song back in 1973, but it was made famous again when the film “The Bodyguard” was released staring Whitney Houston, who song her version of it for the film. Her version has become one of the highest selling singles of all time. This love song is probably the best one to belt out at the top of your lungs with whoever is lucky enough to do it with you.
1. Diana Ross & Lionel Richie – “Endless Love”
“Endless Love” is considered the greatest duet song of all time, and none sing it better than Dianna Ross and Lionel Richie. Their powerful vocals and deep lyrics will forever remain as the most moving love song of all time.
