Patrick Carney of the Black Keys Attacks U2’s ‘Songs of Innocence’ controversial release claiming it, “devalued their music completely,” and stating the deal with Apple, “sends a huge mixed message to bands…that are just struggling to get by. I think that [U2] were thinking it’s super generous of them to do something like that.”
This fits right along with how Carney feels about the music streaming service Spotify as well. Not that he is against streaming music, he just thinks that artists should be fairly compensated for their work.
“My whole thing about music is: if somebody’s making money then the artist should be getting a fair cut of it. The owner of Spotify is worth something like three billion dollars…he’s richer than Paul McCartney and he’s thirty and he’s never written a song.”
