Happy Birthday so to speak to the group of artists and filmmakers that filed a lawsuit back in 2013. The lawsuit sought the return of millions of dollars in fees that Warner/Chappell Music had collected over the years from its claim on the copyright to “Happy Birthday to You.” In September, Chief US District Judge King in Los Angeles, who ruled that Warner/Chappell does not own a copyright to the lyrics. The parties have now announced that they reached a settlement. Though its details have not been revealed, once it is finalized, the song will become public domain.
