Steinway & Sons was founded by German immigrant Henry Engelhard Steinway in 1853. The company’s first patent was granted in 1857, the first of 125.
Over the next 30 years, Henry and his sons developed the modern piano. The instruments were, and still are, made by hand. Due to superior craftsmanship and quality, Steinway became the choice for ninety-eight percent of concert pianists.
Steinway & Sons remains one of the top names in piano production today. Still handmade, each piano is comprised of over 12,000 individual parts.
