Ashokan Fiddle & Dance / Western & Swing Week


Olivebridge, NY (near Woodstock, NY) June 29-July 5, 2008

Classes in Swing, Jazz, Country and Western-Swing music and dance. Small, relaxed, supportive classes for 165 participants of all abilities & ages. Fiddle, mandolin, guitar, singing, piano, vocal workshops, band clinics, at a wide variety of experience levels, plus jam sessions, song swaps, dance parties, performances & slow jams. Study with Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, directors, & a carefully chosen staff of exceptional teachers. In a beautiful, secluded woodland setting.

Anatomy of Sound - A Workshop for Flutists

BLUEGRASS JAM CAMP with Monroe Crossing

August 5-7 2008 Monroe Crossing will host a three-day bluegrass instructional camp. This camp is for beginners and intermediate level players and will include individual instrument instruction plus group playing and harmony singing dynamics. This is a great way to start a great festival weekend. Tuesday August 5th (after 6PM) through Thursday August 7th 2008.

Under the artistic direction of saxophonist/composer/educator Don Braden, the camp hosts resident artists and guest clinicians who are at the top of their game. Our approach is inclusive and non-competitive. Students are admitted on a first-come basis, with no prior audition required. They are heard by the faculty when they arrive and placed in skill-matched combos. While the minimum age for admission is 13, we encourage adult students to attend as well. Our skill-based approach to combo assignment makes placement comfortable for students no matter their age. Housing, however, is assigned by age and gender. Every effort is made to accommodate young people whose financial resources may be limited.

Whether you are a veteran chamber music player or a first timer who is interested in collaborating with other adult musicians, this camp’s for you. Musicians will have coaching by MacPhail faculty members, an opportunity to meet and socialize with musicians with similar interests, and master classes from recognized professional musicians in the Twin Cities area. Students can choose to participate in reading sessions, individual lessons and technique classes. Camp will culminate with a performance and reception.
Mark O`Connor Fiddle Camp

Montgomery Bell State Park, Burns TN June 22-28, 2008 Fiddle and violin classes are offered to fiddlers of all levels of expertise, ages 8 and up. Fiddlers under age 18 must come with a registered guardian. Instruction in Texas style, bluegrass, swing, jazz, classical, Canadian, and others.

Nashville, TN Week 1: June 22-27, 2008 Week 2: July 27-August 1, 2008 Acoustic instrumental music camp for 60 in a restored Victorian mansion just outside Nashville.
